The CITYsound Project is a competition entry in the 2009 By George! Laneways Scheme as part of the Sydney Art and About Festival.
By combining sound and architecture the CITYsound project aims to disrupt linear pedestrian flow through access ways and encourage the pedestrian to engage with the space by slowing the path of travel and creating a destination within the space. The reinterpretation of the city grid inverts the city and suspends it to create both form and surface that allows interaction by the audience in order to activate and change the way we move through spaces.
The CITYsound project reinterprets the role of traditional building materials and questions their ability to generate form unto themselves. The disassembly of the project allows a reconfiguration of the elements for another space or
the ability for the materials to be reused back into the city’s construction.
The CITYsound project is in collaboration with Tanya Eggins and Alex Xu.
