The Sydney Town Hall is a conceptual design.

What would happen if the existing Sydney Town Hall were demolished? How would a new building engage with the city and express the multicultural nature of Australia’s largest city?

This project introduces a public square to George Street without demolishing other buildings. Gadigal Square (The first inhabitants of Sydney) feeds directly off the new Town Hall and underground transport network. The building itself is divided into 2 distinct programs, elected and appointed. Both of these serve the city but in different capacities.

The form of the building is derived from a weaving and encompassing of the city and the remaining building onsite. The red glass façade and bridge-like structure reflect the cities randomness and vibrancy and act as a beacon in the centre of the city. The scheme links and wraps Commerce with the adjacent retail outlets and offices, Religion with the neighbouring St. Andrews Cathedral and Education with the nearby School.
