Pixel 23 de Enero is a conceptual design.
The 23 de Enero are a series of residential towers in Caracas, Venezuela. Built in the 1950′s to house the cities expanding population, they, together with the informal settlements of the region, play a large part in understanding the social and political role and character of the city.
The proposal aims to re-evaluate and re-interpret the “Superblocks” by understanding the context to their siting.
The concept behind this project is driven strongly by the work of local artist, Magdalena Fernández. The concept aims to destabilise the rigidity of modern thought through manipulation and distortion of the existing superblocks and their “pixels”.
